Clinard Makes Real Estate Gift to Support Family Services’ Future

David Elwood “Woody” Clinard, Jr.

David Elwood “Woody” Clinard, Jr. became involved with Family Services in the early 1960s. A friend of his was on the board and recommended that he join. It was his first board experience, and he eventually became board chair. He also served as honorary co-chair of the Raising Every Child Capital Campaign from 2017 to 2019 and is currently an emeritus Foundation board member.

To ensure that his support of Family Services continues beyond his lifetime, Woody has made a real estate gift of a commercial office building. “Gifting it enabled me to make an ongoing gift,” Woody says. “The income will benefit Family Services for years to come. When fully rented, the income should produce $100,000 a year!”

Now semi-retired, Woody enjoyed a long career in real estate and insurance. In 2000 he began volunteering as a children’s reading tutor and more recently became involved with Pre-K programs at Family Services. He is inspired to help children get a good start in life. “My gift conveys my purpose in life—to help kids succeed, which they can’t do without education. If they get an early start, they will be better off in their education.”

Woody encourages others to consider the legacy gifts they could leave to support the future of Family Services. “Find a purpose in life that you think could change the world, and give to organizations that match your passions,” he concludes. “Education is an investment for the future. Everything we do today—the lives we touch—will live on in others long after we are gone.”
